SLEEP, THE HUNGER HORMONE, AND WEIGHT CONTROL

You don't really hear about this much, but getting enough restful sleep may be particularly important in the area of weight control. Why? Some research indicates that sleep deprivation actually leads to greater amounts of a hunger hormone and decreases the presence of a hormone that may account for satiety, or the sensation of feeling full. Of course, this may be plain enough to anyone who has pulled an all nighter and found themselves to have a ravenous appetite by morning time. In a study conducted by Northwestern University, researchers found that children who got at least an hour less sleep than their peers weighed an average of five pounds more.
