PancreasThe pancreas is a compound gland organ located behind the stomach, across the back of the abdomen and connected to the small intestine. It is composed of both an exocrine tissues and endocrine tissues.
The exocrine tissues are responsible for the production and discharge of pancreatic juices for digestion. They break down starches, proteins and fats. The endocrine tissues produce the hormones glucagon and insulin to regulate ‘blood sugar’, glucose in the bloodstream.
If this process does not work correctly a person can develop insulin resistance or type II diabetes.
