Naturopathy is an ancient form of holistic healing that has been used for centuries all over the world. Sometimes referred to as ‘naturopathic medicine’ or ‘complementary or alternative medicine’, naturopathy is a natural form of medicine unlike western medicine.

While western medicine treats an illness once it has already formed and uses synthetic drugs and surgery, naturopathy focuses more on preventative medicine and keeping one healthy before the onset of disease and deterioration. The school of naturopathic medicine believes that the body has an innate ability to heal itself if it is supported by a healthy environment.

Naturopathy uses herbs, foods, scents, water, air, massage, sunlight and other natural elements of the earth to bring balance to one’s whole body: mind, body and spirit.

Herbalism, acupuncture, Ayurveda, aromatherapy, massage, colon cleansing hydroptherapy and environmental medicine are all forms of naturopathy, though there are hundreds more naturopathic treatments.

Most forms of naturopathy have not been fully researched and tested like western medicine and because of this lack of research it is still unaccepted by most western physicians.
