Red Blood CellsRed blood cells, also known as RBCs, erythrocytes and haematids, are found by the millions in a single drop of blood. Their main functions are to deliver oxygen from the lungs to body tissues and cells, and the removal of carbon dioxide. They are the most common type of blood cell and are red in color due to hemoglobin, which releases oxygen to the cells. The average life of a red blood cell is around 120 days and without these blood cells your body would slowly die.
